Tips to Build and Deploy Your Microsoft Dynamics SL Web Apps - Part 1

10/15/2015

Solomon Cloud Solutions brings you powerful tips for your web apps developer to build and deploy your Microsoft Dynamics SL Web Apps more efficiently.
Part 1 – Deployment Building in the Web Apps Solution:

These instructions are for use with Microsoft Dynamics SL Web Apps 2015 CU1 release.

The instructions that follow will build the Web Apps deployment after each full build and do not require additional steps after the build command.

Microsoft delivers script information for deploying Web Apps in the building.txt file provided with the Web Apps source. By making a few changes to that script it can be placed into the Visual Studio build by adding a new project and editing the Post-build Event.  Typically adding a new project will place that project last in the build order. You may need to verify that before proceeding.

Background: Visual Studio 2013 is used in this example.
Several of these post process commands are not available directly in Visual Studio. Fortunately Visual Studio does provide the Pre- and Post- build events to add command line scripts. You might need to tweak the sn.exe, resgen.exe, and al.exe command locations if the installed folders being used are moved by future Visual Studio releases.

Steps:
  1. Download the PostProjectBuild.zip file and unzip it in the source folder (same area as the WebApps.sln solution file).
  2. Open the solution and add the project to the solution.
  3. Run the Rebuild Solution and this should place the required Microsoft.Dynamics.SL.Timecard.Mobile.zip in the Deployment folder.
